Internship:
Flux Metal Arts is an active jewelry and metalworking artist studio that offers classes and workshops with both local and visiting artists. We are home to three resident artists, and also maintain a retail gallery that represents emerging and established studio artists from North East Ohio and
beyond.
The Internship Program is an opportunity for current students and recent graduates to observe and learn day-to-day operations of a teaching studio and retail gallery. The internship will include working with customers, students and instructors, as well as the behind the scenes aspects of operating a gallery and active artist studio. Hands-on experience may include customer and artist interaction, gallery sales, retail display, inventory, administrative tasks, studio maintenance, professional networking, etc…
Our intern will be responsible for assisting with the operations of a teaching studio and retail gallery every Friday from 10:00 am – 6:00 pm.
The intern may also be needed one Saturday per month, and be available for occasional special events as arranged.
Responsibilities:
The intern will be learning about all aspects of a teaching studio and retail gallery. Varying responsibilities include:
* Support and expand relations with customers and artists in a positive and enthusiastic manner.
* Assist in managing gallery sales, operations, retail display, inventory, etc.
* Assist in the creation of print campaigns, promotions, mailings, etc.
* Assist in the upkeep and maintenance of a metalworking studio, prepare class materials, assist students & instructors with tools & equipment.
Requirements:
Applicants need to possess basic metalsmithing skills. Must be trustworthy, punctual, personable and welcoming to all who enter. Past retail or customer service experience is preferred, and experience with Photoshop and Microsoft Office Suite is helpful.
Compensation:
Compensation will include use of a dedicated jeweler’s workbench to create personal artwork Tuesday - Saturday, full access to all studio tools and equipment, and secured storage. Mentorship, discounted or free workshops and other artistic growth opportunities will also be presented. In addition, the intern will benefit from hands-on knowledge of gallery operations, maintaining studio facilities, and possible credits from institution (dependant on school requirements). This is an un-paid position with the understanding that the intern is not an employee of Flux Metal Arts, LLC; and entitlement to future employment is not promised or offered.
