Always wanted to feel the exhilaration of casting molten metal? Come experiment with direct pour sand casting, one of the oldest, simplest and most satisfying methods of casting. In this fun one day workshop be inspired, and create your own rings, pendants, earrings and more. Bring small objects (up to 1.5 inches) to press directly into the sand or use provided objects. The pressed pieces will not be damaged, but should not be too delicate and must not have any undercuts. Techniques will include how to prepare the mold, preparation of casting materials, safety issues, use of a gas fueled torch, and finishing tips. An easy way to recycle clean silver or PMC scrap, you will want to do this process again and again in your own studio! 2 ozt. of clean silver scrap or casting grain to be provided by the student, OR sterling casting grain may be pre-ordered from the studio. Studio tools and equipment will be available for use.
Sunday, May 29 11:00 AM -6:00 PM
No jewelry experience is required, but comfort with a torch is helpful (ages 16 and up).
Class Fee: $110
Materials Fee: $70 payable to the instructor the day of class.
Includes a versatile casting frame & casting sand.
