If you are thinking about selling your work, or are ready to take the next step in creating a profitable production line, but need some experienced advice, this class is for you! In this weekend workshop gain valuable insights as you learn to work smart, hone your ideas, and create prototypes ready for marketing. A jeweler and artist with over 35 years of experience, Catherine Butler will guide you through the three essential phases of developing a production line. “Production Line Basics” will help students capitalize on what makes their designs unique. Many topics including effective use of material, pricing & marketing will also be discussed. In addition, Catherine will present examples of both her own production work and that of other jewelry artists. We will examine effective ways to use materials, efficient ways of creating work, interesting linkage, connections and use of findings. “Design Process” will be a hands on design session of drawing and tinkering, with one on one input from Catherine to help students hone their ideas and begin the prototyping process. The second day of the workshop will be fully devoted to “Prototyping a Line”, a hands on session for creating the prototypes for your line. These will be finished pieces suitable to be photographed so you can start marketing your work. The class will end with all students presenting their prototypes for group discussion and peer critique. Tools will be available for use. This class is limited to eight students.
