In the traditions of the goldsmith, learn from start to finish how to create your own custom metal stock to use in your jewelry designs. Start by learning how to calculate and measure alloys to create your own sterling silver, along with how to recycle clean fine sterling or fine silver scrap. Using a mold, learn how to successfully pour your own wire ingots. Then transform your ingots with creative uses of the rolling mill, metal forging, and drawing of wire into a large variety of wire shapes and sizes. The instructor will also demonstrate how to adapt these wires into your own jewelry designs. Leave with the knowledge you can create your own custom materials for inspired earrings, bracelets, pendants, rings an more! Tools will be available for use. This class is limited to eight students.
Saturday, February 4 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
Basic metalworking skills, including comfort with a gas-fueled torch is recommended, but adventurous beginners are also welcome. (Age 16 & up)
Class Fee: $130
Materials Fee: $40 payable to the instructor to create 1 ozt. of Sterling alloy. Students are encouraged to bring clean sterling or fine silver scrap to create additional material. Additional silver grain may also be pre-ordered through the studio at an additional cost.
