Have you wanted to experience one of the most low-tech ways of casting molten metal? Come experiment with direct pour sand casting, one of the oldest and simplest casting methods available. In this fun one day workshop be inspired as you create your own pendant or jewelry components. Simple one and two part molds will be explored, as students will create a minimum of one finished piece. Techniques will include how to prepare the mold, preparation of casting materials, safety issues, use of a gas fueled torch, and finishing tips. An easy way to recycle clean silver or PMC scrap, you will want to do this process again and again in your own studio! Bring small objects (up to 1.5 inches) to press directly into the sand or use provided objects. The pressed pieces will not be damaged, but should not be too delicate and must not have any undercuts. 2 ozt. of clean silver scrap or casting grain to be provided by the student, OR sterling casting grain may be pre-ordered from the studio. Studio tools and equipment will be available for use.
