Keum-Boo
Find out how easy it is to add the rich and dramatic luster of gold to your silver creations with very little expense. In the ancient Korean technique of Keum-Boo (meaning “attached gold”) pure gold foil is bonded to the surface of a finished silver object with heat and pressure. In this workshop students will make a pair of textured silver earrings and a puffed pendant bead, and learn to apply 24K gold foil to them. This class will also cover surface texture exploration, simple soldering, depletion gilding and patina. Students may also bring finished sterling silver or fine silver PMC pieces to class for applying the Keum-boo process (mostly flat surfaces, no hollow forms, stones un-set). Project materials are included. Tools will be available for use; Optical Magnifiers are required.
